A robbery attempt at a Florida hemp store resulted in a fatal self-defense shooting by an employee. The Tallahassee police are continuing their investigation into the incident.


TALLAHASSEE, FL (2-minute read) — A fatal shooting at a Florida Hemp Distribution store is under investigation after an employee shot one of two men involved in an attempted robbery. The incident occurred on Friday evening at 220 West Tennessee Street in Tallahassee, shortly after Hurricane Helene passed through the area.

According to co-owner Alex Petrick, two men entered the store, approaching the lone employee who was working at the time. As the situation escalated, the employee felt threatened and drew his firearm, ordering the intruders to leave. Despite the warnings, one of the suspects continued to advance, forcing the employee into a corner, which led him to fire his gun in self-defense.

Petrick noted that the second man fled the scene as soon as he saw the firearm. No customers or other employees were in the store at the time of the incident. Following the shooting, police arrived at the scene, questioned the employee, and released him after several hours of inquiry. Petrick stated that no charges had been filed against the employee.

Police spokesperson Heather Merritt mentioned that the investigation is still active, and more interviews are being conducted to gather information on the case.
