Late at night, most people might mind their own business if they heard a scream outside. But not David Garza, a middle school teacher from East Houston.

When Garza heard the desperate cries of a 15-year-old girl being attacked outside his apartment on July 28th, he didn’t hesitate. Instead of freezing or merely calling 911, he grabbed his gun and rushed to the girl’s aid, becoming the hero we all hope to be in such a dire situation.

The incident began when the teenage girl, after getting off a public bus, was followed by a man across the street and into an apartment complex. Garza, who was inside his home, quickly looked out of his window and saw the girl being assaulted.

“I looked out the window and I saw a man beating up a woman on the ground,” Garza told KHOU. The suspect was “trying to take her clothes off.”

Without thinking twice, he ran upstairs, grabbed his pistol, and confronted the attacker.

When Garza reached the scene, he shouted at the man, causing the attacker to release the girl immediately. The man then fled, with Garza in pursuit, giving the girl a chance to escape to safety. This brave act wasn’t without risk.

“At first, I was scared because I literally thought she was about to get raped. I think if he didn’t come out, she probably would have gotten raped,” Graza said.

This story isn’t just about one man’s bravery; it’s a powerful reminder of the broader purpose of the Second Amendment. Garza’s actions demonstrate how the right to bear arms isn’t just about personal protection; it’s also about safeguarding those who cannot protect themselves—the weak and the vulnerable, as Colion Noir noted in the video above.

In the end, Garza’s swift response and willingness to act epitomize the true spirit of the Second Amendment.

As Noir explained, “It empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things, like saving lives when it counts the most.”

“And David Garza showed us all what it means to be a protector, to stand up when it counts, and that’s what the Second Amendment is all about—empowering the good guys to stop the bad guys no matter where or when evil decides to show its face,” Noir added.

Law enforcement is still actively searching for the suspect. He was wearing a black hoodie with a white Reebok logo, blue jeans, and white sneakers during the time of the attack.
