Indianapolis Metro Police (IMP) are investigating a fatal road rage shooting that claimed the life of a 29-year-old man on the southeast side of the city. The incident occurred this week near Emerson and Thompson Road.
The victim, who was recently married, died after being shot during a confrontation between two drivers. Witnesses reported that the altercation involved a black Honda and a white Chevy pickup truck.
Police arrived at the scene quickly after receiving several calls and found the driver of the pickup truck, who admitted to pulling the trigger. Authorities detained the driver at the scene but later released him, believing he acted in self-defense.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Gavin Dasaur, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
His wife, Cynthia, shared a video with 13 News from their wedding last month, expressing her grief and heartbreak.

“It’s such a tragedy that my husband was murdered in cold blood. As a grieving widow, my heart is shattered and my world will never be the same,” she said.
IMPD emphasized that road rage shootings like this one are preventable and urged drivers to avoid engaging with aggressive drivers.
“If someone upsets you out here on the roads, it’s not worth it. Just let them go. Don’t honk at them, don’t engage, don’t confront them, just let them go,” advised an officer.
Police are speaking with several witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses. They urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
