I know what you’re thinking — “What the heck is this gimmicky thing?” — but hear me out. Many folks already put Apple AirTags or other similar tracking devices in their gun case, particularly when flying, so they can track their firearm’s journey to its destination. But what good is a tracker if the firearm is removed from the case? The folks at GunTag have come up with a solution.
Full disclosure: I haven’t gotten my hands on one of these to try yet, so don’t take this as any kind of endorsement. It just simply stood out from the onslaught of press releases we receive each week, so we wanted to share in case you found the concept intriguing, too.
By pairing tactical laser sights and LED lights with discrete compartments for personal Bluetooth devices, GunTag allows gun owners the ability to know the location of their firearms at all times using popular Bluetooth devices such as Apple AirTags and Tile Stickers.
The idea stemmed from when founder and CEO Troy Deus had 30 car break-ins in his neighborhood in one night, during which a number of firearms were stolen. The next morning, he got a four-pack of AirTags to use for various items, including his bike, in case of theft, but it got him thinking. If an AirTag or Tile can be used for loss and anti-theft for a bike, why not a firearm?
While GunTag cannot guarantee that your firearm won’t be stolen, its products are designed to help customers and law enforcement recover stolen firearms and give gun owners assurance that they can keep tabs on their firearms every hour of the day.
