I’ve tested other varieties of the new Staccato Match and Range ammo but now the company offers a heavier and slower OTM variant. The open tip match looks like a hollowpoint but is not for defensive use and would likely not expand anyway. Rather, it’s the result of the manufacturing technique that allows the bullet base to be fully jacketed as the lead is stuffed in from the tip.
The new load weighs in at 136 grains. I tested it from three different Staccato 2011 pistols. From the full-size P model (4.4″ barrel), it exited the muzzle at 990.2 fps with an extreme spread of just 31.5 fps. The 5-shot, 25-yard group measured 1.2″. On the compact side, the CS model (3.5″ barrel) yielded 916.7 fps and 1.3″ groups. The C model (4.0″ barrel) split the difference with 959.2 fps. I didn’t get a chance to test accuracy with the C, but there won’t be any surprises. It’s new and unpriced at press time, but the 125-grain version is $24.95 for a 50-round box. Staccato2011.com
