Authorities believe this was a targeted attack, as Thompson’s schedule was well known due to his attendance at an investor conference scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Witnesses report that the shooter appeared to know precisely which door Thompson would use, ambushing him at point-blank range.

The gunman, described as a tall man wearing all black and a ski mask, fled through Ziegfeld Alleyway before escaping on a bicycle. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area, and a $10,000 reward has been announced for information leading to an arrest.
