A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in Ohio earlier this month after allegedly carjacking an Amazon delivery driver.

Amazon Driver Fights Back

The Amazon driver was delivering in a neighborhood late in the afternoon. According to WKYC, the armed suspect approached the driver.  He reportedly held the driver at gunpoint and took the vehicle.

The Amazon driver fired several shots. Reports do not indicate whether it was his gun. He hit the suspect at least once.

The suspect attempted to drive off in the vehicle. He crashed the car after his gunshot wound left him unable to drive.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the suspect was dead.

Teenagers Running Amok

A few days later, the identity of the alleged carjacker was released.

Fox8 revealed that a series of thefts had been committed earlier that day by a group of teens. Police identified all five of the teen suspects.

The Amazon driver fatally shot 17-year-old suspect Alquin Wells.

The other four suspects’ ages range from 12 to 17. Their thefts included stolen phones and vehicles.

The four teens have been charged with aggravated robbery and grand theft. Two of them were also charged for a second incident the following day.

Neighbors Not Pleased

Neighbors were quite shocked that this shooting happened in broad daylight.

“I don’t like this in my front yard,” one neighbor told WOIO. “And it literally is in my front yard.”

This deadly carjacking happened at 4 p.m. on a Saturday. Half a block away, children were outside having a birthday party.

No one else appeared to be injured. One neighbor shared photos online of her car, with several bullet holes.

Potential Amazon Clapback

Amazon released a statement shortly after the incident. “We are saddened to learn of this tragic incident and are working closely with law enforcement as they investigate.”

Police have not commented on whether the driver shot in self-defense. But similar past events show that Amazon does not always care.
